More Utah Upsides

More upsides of Utah vacations we discovered during our last trip:
Swim classes are about a tenth of what they cost in Manhattan, and outside in a lovely backyard. Max took three swim classes with Sophie, Breanne and Maya.

He ‘dove’ off the side and timidly but repeatedly went off the diving board.

The girls wanted Uncle Eric to come back in but he was too distracting

His favorite part was fishing for rings.

Julie got private lessons. The first day she was scared and clung tightly to mommy the whole time. But by the second day she was more independent on the kickboard, and even jumped off the side.

And Utah has a lot of the treats we love in Irvine, like frozen yogurt.

And big parking lots to roam in.

Plus In-N-Out. Julie and Max spilt an animal style double-double and an order of fries.
The kids' first In-N-Oit experience. They devoured their burgers,

Sharing french fries

Though we had to move Julie to the grown up table when they no longer wanted to share the fries. She was happy to sit by Thea.

There are more horses, baby goats and wagon rides in Utah.

Saloon girls (and guy). The kids spent a long time rearranging rocks around this structure.

Not as much performance art as NYC, though I found this work of Jensen girl symmetry at the splash park to be pretty stunning.

Max and Julie loved all the outside water time.

Utah power walks are hot but scenic.

As we said in the last post, the biggest upside of Utah vacations is so many cousins to play with – whether in the car or on spacious suburban lawns.

And somehow we managed to get a photo of all nine of them, maybe not exactly smiling, but at least sitting still and looking at the camera (and looking so cute!).
Trying to get an all-cousin photo...

No Association guys on golf carts banning water guns in the pool (Irvine people know what I mean).

Just lots of cousin love. Julie couldn’t stay out of Sophie and Breanne’s laps.
She kept climbing into her cousins' laps
The girls were also great bathtime helpers.

With all the twins around, nobody minded that Max and Sidon dressed alike. Sidon insisted on striped pajamas like Max’s for storytime with Nonna.

We miss you guys! See you at Christmas! (or maybe in Orange County this fall? For all its splendor, Utah still has no Disneyland).
